This is not my blog, even though I will be writing the posts. This is dedicated to Arsenal and its fans and that’s who it belongs to!
I’ve been a gooner all my life. Some of my earliest memories are of checking the scores on a Saturday afternoon at my grandparents house on Ceefax. I recently went over to see my Granny Marie, and asked if we could quickly check the Arsenal score on the BBC red button. I started saying, “I think it’s page 3 hundred and 23”, and she corrected me, “No, Wills, it’s 413. Surprised you forgot that.”
My grandad was born in Clerkenwell, and lived in Islington in the 1930s. It was a time when football players’ wages were not much different to everyone else’s. A few of them – Cliff Bastin, Ted Drake – were friends of his, and would often stay at his flat. My granny would – literally – wear black if we lost.
So there was never an option that I’d support another team. When my cousin was about 3 or 4 I took him to one side and asked, “What’s your favourite football team?”. He said that his friend like Man United. I told him in no uncertain terms that Arsenal were the best team on the planet, and another gooner was born. I’m currently indoctrinating my 2-year-old son. The first game we watched together was the 6-1 opening day demolition of Everton.
I try to go to as many matches as I can, but I’m currently a minimum wage slave, so it’s not really possible for me to buy tickets at the moment. I rely on the generosity of friends. If you have a spare ticket please email me – email@example.com – or tweet me @arsenallyyours… and I’ll love you forever.
I’m a Londoner – I was born in Wandsworth, lived in Lewisham and Bexleyheath. Now I live in Hemel Hempstead with my agent and the Arsenally little one.
You are more than welcome to use any of my writing, team predictions, betting tips, or any other material in any way you want, PROVIDED THAT you credit me in text and with a link to this site. So for example – “According to the excellent Arsenally Yours, Squillaci hasn’t turned into a great signing…”. If you want help with this, do get in touch.
Obviously, my betting tips should not form the basis of any money-making scheme! I do place them myself however. Bear in mind something my grandad told me, “It’s a mug’s game. You never meet a poor bookie”.
